Eight WWE Superstars will compete against each other in a ladder match to earn a future shot at a WWE championship. Each wrestler's chances are analyzed.

With pro wrestling’s signature Sunday fast approaching, the months of hype for each match on Wrestlemania 23’s card has left even the most enlightened fan scratching his head over the outcome of the contests. Perhaps the most intriguing matchup of all involves eight WWE superstars in an each-man-for-himself Money in the Bank Ladder match. While picking a favorite amongst eight of wrestling’s elite seems to be an impossible task, it’s easy when examining just what the match is all about.

The superstar who wins is the first one to climb a ladder and retrieve the suitcase full of money suspended above the ring. The man who possesses the suitcase has right to challenge for the WWE Championship at any time over the next year. The winner must be someone who’s able to carry a future championship storyline and possibly be the face of the WWE as its champion. Understanding this is the key to knowing who will win Sunday.

Keeping in mind the responsibility of the ladder match winner, the field breaks down as follows—

No Chance

CM Punk

Finley

Both wrestlers enjoy a cult following amongst a segment of fans. Squeaky-clean, multi-pierced, tattooed freaks love the Straight Edge CM Punk, while fans of Irish heritage rally behind the Irishman Finley who “loves to fight.” Unfortunately for their fans, both CM Punk and Finley lack the larger-than-life physique of a typical WWE champion.

Unlikely

King Booker

Jeff Hardy

Matt Hardy

All three are veteran superstars and all three lack what it takes to be a current champion. For Matt and Jeff Hardy it’s an inability to create a good promo. Even though the brothers bring athleticism and a large fan following, they just are not comfortable speaking in front of a camera. If you can’t work the crowd, you can’t be champion…it’s that simple. For King Booker, his past will work against him. The winner of the match will be a rising star that Vince McMahon will market heavily in order for ratings to continue to grow amongst young viewers. Young viewers do not want to see an aging champion.

The Contenders

Mr. Kennedy

Randy Orton

While there are eight men competing in the Money in the Bank Ladder Match, the reality is there are only three legitimate contenders for the prize. Each one is young, can work a crowd, and has the look of a champion.

Mr. Kennedy is the crazy-eyed loud mouth who often main events Smackdown. He is one of the WWE’s true young stars and he may be poised to become the next champion. Randy Orton boasts of being the youngest championship title-holder in WWE history and could be in line to recapture wrestling’s top prize. It should be to the surprise of no one if either one walks away victorious.

The Favorite

Edge

For the past month Edge has avoided fighting, turned his back on his former partner Randy Orton, and has spent a great deal of time in front of the camera talking down to the other competitors and fans alike. This can only mean on thing…Edge is poised to rise up and capture victory on Sunday. He is arrogant, charismatic, and has pretty-boy good looks. No other participant is more loathed by the fans and McMahon knows this. Look for arenas full of fans booing Edge in the coming months as the “when will Edge ask for his title shot” storyline takes center stage.
